Contribution to the knowledge of the Cu–Sn–Zn system for compositions close to brass alloys

چکیده
The effect of tin content in the equilibrium phases of the Cu–Zn-based alloys, within the range of chemical compositions with interest to brass producers is described. For this purpose, ternary alloys with copper contents between 55.4 and 67.5 wt.% and tin contents up to 5.30 wt.% have been studied. The chemical composition of each alloy has been determined by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF). Isothermal homogenization, followed by rapid cooling, has been employed to determine the equilibrium phases at different temperatures. The homogenized alloys have been observed by scanning electron microscopy and the respective chemical analysis of the phases determined by electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). The statistical analysis of the obtained results enable to correlate the chemical composition of equilibrium phases with temperature. The chemical composition of the three-phase field, for the studied temperatures, has also been determined. © 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Dealloying and Stress Corrosion Craking of Copper Alloys in Cu(I) Solutions
Natural cases of dealloying or stress-corrosion cracking in copper alloys normally occur in oxygenated solutions, where the cathodic reactant is O2 or Cu2+. Within cavities or under deposits, the local environment is enriched in cuprous ions (e.g. CuCl2-, Cu (NH3)2+) and the potential is close to the Cu/Cu+ equilibrium. Such conditions can be simulated macroscopically by stirring powdered Cu2O ...

The interactions of copper substrate with titanium-alloyed Sn-Zn eutectic solders have been studied. Two series of experiments have been performed. The first one consisted in differential thermal analyses of Sn-Zn nearly eutectic alloys containing from 1.3 to 2.2 wt. % Ti. Diffusion couples consisted of Cu-wires and Sn-Zn-Ti liquid solders, produced at 250 and 275 OC have been prepared in the s...

The effect of heat treatment and alloying elements of copper and tin on the microstructure and mechanical properties of austempered ductile cast iron alloys is investigated. The austenitizing temperature of 890°C, the isothermal transformation (austempering) temperatures of 285, 335 and 375°C, and austempering times of 15, 30, 75 and 150 minutes are studied. The alloying elements of copper and ...
متن کاملUnderstanding the Cu-Zn brass alloys using a short-range-order cluster model: significance of specific compositions of industrial alloys
Metallic alloys show complex chemistries that are not yet understood so far. It has been widely accepted that behind the composition selection lies a short-range-order mechanism for solid solutions. The present paper addresses this fundamental question by examining the face-centered-cubic Cu-Zn α-brasses. A new structural approach, the cluster-plus-glue-atom model, is introduced, which suits sp...
متن کاملStudy of Structural Changes in Cu-Ni-Zn Mixture in Producing of Nickel Silver Alloys by Mechanical Alloying
Production of nickel-silver by mechanical alloying was investigated. Effects of parameters such as milling duration, ball to powder weight ratio, and chemical composition on mechanical alloying process, and alloys color and microstructure were studied. The milled powders were characterized, using XRD and SEM. Results showed that nickel-silvers could be produced by mechanical alloying in a wide ...
